Heights Heritage Conservation have been busy with lots of different and interesting projects.

Tess has once again been nominated for AICCM’s Conservator of the Year Award, having been nominated by the Art Gallery of NSW, which will be announced at the upcoming AGM.

Tess is also very exited about being invited to be on the advisory committee of the Australian Dress Register by the Powerhouse Museum.

Boer War Flag

Project: Cleaning, conservation, mounting and framing of a Boer War Union Jack.

Client: St Mary's Historical Society

Treatment: A wool Union Jack flag came to us in poor condition, having been previously glued to Masonite. There were many areas of loss, weak seams, some previous patching and overall dirt.

The Masonite was removed, the flag cleaned and mounted onto matching support fabric with stitching. The supported flag was then mounted onto a board and framed.

ANZAC Memorial Exhibition

Project: Mounting and preparation for display of a range of mixed media objects.

Client: ANZAC Memorial.

Treatment: The exhibition comprises a wide range of objects from uniforms and flags, medals and badges and photographs and documents.

We were responsible for preparing the objects for display by making mannequins and other supports for textiles; court mounting medals, mounting badges, and other metal objects and the general installation of the exhibition.

For the reopening of the Memorial, we also undertook the conservation of the Poppy Wreath. The silk and wax poppy wreath was in poor condition. The silk was fragile and faded with extensive dirt. The wax poppies were disfigured.
The wreath was cleaned and reshaped before going back into its original frame.
